BREAKING: ADC picks Amaechi as Atiku’s running mate for 2027 presidential election

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has chosen former Rivers State Governor and ex-Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi, as its vice-presidential candidate for the 2027 general election, pairing him with former Vice President Atiku Abubakar.

Announcing the decision on Monday, the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Bolaji Abdullahi, said Amaechi emerged after extensive consultations with party leaders, coalition partners and stakeholders across the country.

According to the ADC, Amaechi’s emergence was influenced by his performance in the party’s presidential primaries, where he finished as runner-up and secured broad support from members nationwide.

The party described the Atiku-Amaechi ticket as a partnership between two experienced political figures capable of addressing Nigeria’s challenges and offering a credible alternative in the next presidential election.

ADC noted that Amaechi has served in several key positions, including Speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly, two-term Governor of Rivers State and Minister of Transportation, where he supervised major transportation and rail projects.

It said his experience across both the legislative and executive arms of government would complement Atiku’s leadership and strengthen the party’s campaign.

The party also highlighted Amaechi’s political influence in the South-South and other parts of Southern Nigeria, describing him as a reform-minded administrator with the ability to build alliances across regional and political divides.

ADC expressed confidence that the ticket would inspire Nigerians seeking economic recovery, improved security and national unity, while calling on party members, coalition partners and other stakeholders to support its 2027 presidential bid.
