Davido breaks record with sold-out 5-Alive Tour opener in Akwa Ibom

Nigerian Grammy nominee and Afrobeats superstar, Davido, has made history by selling out the 30,000-capacity Godswill Akpabio International Stadium in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State.

The concert, which kicked off the Nigerian leg of his ongoing 5-Alive Tour, drew a massive turnout of fans and marked Davido’s first major home performance following the successful North American phase of the tour.

The event, held at the state-of-the-art facility, positioned Akwa Ibom as a new hub for large-scale entertainment events in Nigeria.

Speaking at a pre-concert reception, Davido explained that Akwa Ibom was chosen to host the tour’s opening leg because of its modern infrastructure and reputation for supporting major events.

“When we were looking around Africa, five places came up, and Akwa Ibom was at the top of the list,” he said. “A lot of people are flying in from other states that don’t have this type of facility.”

He added that starting the Nigerian leg of the tour in Uyo was a deliberate decision meant to showcase what the state has to offer.

“We toured America already, and it was a great success. We were looking for a good facility around Africa, and Akwa Ibom stood out,” Davido said.

“I’m excited. The stadium is already filled up. You have a standard facility here, and we’re just getting started. Let’s get ready and shut it down.”
