The nomination, ratified on September 20, 2024, during the ACI Africa General Assembly in South Africa, marks a milestone for Kuku and the African aviation industry.
As a Regional Advisor, Kuku will play a pivotal role in shaping global policies affecting airports across the continent. Representing Africa on the ACI World Governing Board, which oversees 2,100 airports across 169 countries, she will advocate for African airports, addressing challenges such as infrastructure development, safety regulations, and sustainable practices.
Kuku’s nomination comes in recognition of her leadership at FAAN, where her team recently won two prestigious safety awards at the ACI Africa Conference in Johannesburg.
The accolades highlighted the operational excellence of Portharcourt International Airport and Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, further showcasing Nigeria’s progress in aviation under her leadership.
In response to her nomination, Kuku stated, “This role is not just a personal achievement; it is a collective victory for our nation and the African aviation sector. Together, we can foster collaboration, innovation, and excellence, ensuring that our airports are not only safe and efficient but also drivers of economic growth and development.”
Kuku’s appointment comes at a critical time, as the global aviation industry faces unprecedented challenges. Her expertise in infrastructure finance and aviation will be crucial in advocating for investment and sustainable policies that enhance the competitiveness of African airports on the world stage.
Since her appointment as Managing Director of FAAN in December 2023, Kuku has leveraged her extensive background in the public and private sectors, including her experience with Big 4 firms like Ernst & Young and Deloitte Consulting.
Her leadership roles in aviation and her commitment to innovation position her as a key figure in advancing aviation across Africa.
With her at the forefront, the future looks bright for African airports as they seek to enhance safety, infrastructure, and economic impact on a global scale.
