First Lady Oluremi Tinubu has extended her condolences to the government and people of Niger State following the tragic flooding that struck several communities between May 28 and 29, 2025.
In a statement released Saturday, the First Lady described the incident as “very saddening,” noting that the flooding—caused by torrential rainfall and the challenging terrain of the area—led to the loss of lives and widespread destruction of property in Mokwa, Tiffin Maza, and Anguwan Hausawa.
“I express my heartfelt condolences and sympathy to the Niger State Governor, His Excellency, Hon. Mohammed Umar Bago, and the good people of Niger State,” she said.
Senator Tinubu prayed for the families affected by the disaster, asking God to give them the strength to bear their losses and for the souls of the departed to rest in peace.
“I pray that Almighty God gives the families, friends, and loved ones of those affected the fortitude to bear this irreplaceable loss. May He grant the departed souls eternal peace and rest,” the First Lady added.
The flood, which has drawn concern from both state and federal authorities, is part of a growing pattern of extreme weather events linked to climate change, underscoring urgent calls for better disaster preparedness and long-term infrastructure planning in vulnerable regions.
At least 110 people have died in floods caused by torrential rainfall in central Nigeria, which lasted for several hours, according to the Director General of the Niger State Emergency Management Agency (NSEMA), Abdullahi Baba-Arah.
Western Post reported that President Tinubu has dispatched a high-level Federal Government delegation to Niger State to commiserate with the government and people of the state following the devastating floods that ravaged Mokwa and its environs.
