Governor Eno commissions 14.8km Ikot Ubo-Odot Road, reaffirms infrastructure drive

Governor Umo Eno of Akwa Ibom State has commissioned the 14.8-kilometre Ikot Ubo-Odot Road linking Nsit Ubium and Nsit Atai Local Government Areas, reinforcing his administration’s commitment to infrastructure development under the ARISE Agenda. The project, completed by Setraco Nigeria Ltd., is a strategic route connecting rural communities to the airport and enhancing economic mobility in the region.

Speaking at the commissioning in Nsit Ubium, Governor Eno expressed gratitude to Setraco for delivering the project within the one-year timeline and assured residents of continued development across all zones. He said the road’s transformation from a treacherous route to a modern highway was personal, recalling the difficulties he experienced while using it in the past.

The Governor reaffirmed his resolve to connect all parts of Akwa Ibom and strengthen links to the Federal Capital Territory. “We are building a United Akwa Ibom where development is not based on politics. It is in that unity that we find progress,” he stated, assuring that spur roads identified by residents would also receive attention.

Commissioner for Works and Fire Service, Prof. Eno Ibanga, described the project as a full-scale rehabilitation involving reconstruction of the base and sub-base, installation of culverts, and over 7km of drainage. “This is not just resurfacing; it’s a durable, two-layer design that will last up to 30 years,” he said.

Chairman of Nsit Ubium, Mr. Alfred Charles, and members of the State House of Assembly representing Nsit Ubium and Nsit Atai praised the Governor for fulfilling a long-standing demand. “You are the captain of Team Akwa United,” they said, highlighting the road’s importance to airport access and economic integration, especially for the Eket region.

In his remarks, federal lawmaker Rt. Hon. Mark Esset called Governor Eno “the golden governor,” declaring his second term non-negotiable. Elder statesman Rt. Hon. Nduese Essien, initially skeptical about the project, expressed surprise at its quality and completion, calling it a major benefit for his constituents in Eket.

Responding to recent media concerns, Governor Eno clarified that the redeployment of correspondents in Government House was routine. “It is within the Chief Press Secretary’s purview. My focus is on development, not transfers,” he said, reaffirming his support for the press and announcing plans to build a modern broadcasting house for AKBC.

Setraco Area Manager, Mr. Michel Issa, thanked the Governor for the opportunity and pledged continued adherence to quality standards. The event concluded with widespread commendation from stakeholders, marking another milestone in the Governor’s drive to improve connectivity and foster inclusive development.
