Governor Umo Eno returns to Lagos church for homecoming, thanksgiving

It was a joyful and emotional gathering at The Apostolic Church, Nigeria, Maboju Assembly, Lagos, as Akwa Ibom State Governor, Pastor Umo Eno, returned to his spiritual roots for a special homecoming and thanksgiving service. The event drew several dignitaries, including top government officials, captains of industry, political associates, and well-wishers who accompanied the governor in celebration.
Addressing the congregation, Governor Eno described the occasion as deeply emotional, noting it had been 30 years since he left the church where he once served actively. Comparing his return to the biblical story of Jacob’s journey back to Bethel, the governor said he was led by the Spirit to revisit the altar where his walk with God began.
Recalling personal testimonies, Governor Eno narrated how he was miraculously healed of an illness during a revival in 1975 and how that encounter marked the beginning of his spiritual growth. He paid glowing tributes to former leaders of the church, particularly the late Apostle George Isong, who played a vital role in his early development and encouraged him to marry at age 22.

Governor Eno also recounted a 1980 prophecy from a young girl during a prayer meeting at the church, declaring he would return to his homeland and become a governor. At the time, he dismissed it, overwhelmed by the challenges of his environment. However, he said the prophecy stayed alive through the faith of his mother and was eventually fulfilled decades later.
Speaking on leadership and inclusion, the governor emphasized the importance of kindness and non-tribalism. He explained that God often uses unexpected people — regardless of tribe, religion, or background — to help fulfill one’s destiny. He credited non-Akwa Ibomites, Christians, Muslims, and others who contributed to his journey and reaffirmed his respect for his predecessor, Deacon Udom Emmanuel, who played a key role in his emergence as governor.

Governor Eno announced various empowerment initiatives and support for the church and its members. In his sermon, Pastor Dr. Gabriel Uyeh, the National Vice President of The Apostolic Church, praised the governor’s humility and described his homecoming as a powerful lesson in gratitude and spiritual consistency.
Representing Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, Secretary to the State Government, Barr. Bimbola Salu-Hundeyin, applauded Governor Eno’s achievements and moral integrity. He acknowledged the governor’s contributions to Lagos during his formative years and expressed pride in hosting him for the thanksgiving.
In his welcome address, District Apostle and Area Superintendent, Pastor Dr. Solomon Nkopeti, described Governor Eno as a committed servant of God whose leadership reflects the Apostolic vision. Other speakers and church leaders, including Pastor James Okon, echoed similar sentiments. The event was graced by Deputy Governor Senator Akon Eyakenyi, top political figures, religious leaders, and other dignitaries from within and outside Akwa Ibom State.
