Iyabo Ojo interrogated by EFCC over currency spray at lavish wedding

Nollywood actress Iyabo Ojo, also known as the Queen Mother, recently revealed that she was invited for questioning by Nigeria’s Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) concerning her daughter’s extravagant wedding ceremony.

In a statement posted to her Instagram account on Tuesday, Ojo explained that she received the EFCC’s invitation while she was abroad in the United Kingdom. Upon her return, she honored the invitation and appeared before the Commission on Monday, May 5, 2025.

She stated that EFCC officials questioned her on a range of topics, including her personal background, career, and business ventures. The focus then shifted to a video from her daughter Priscilla Ojo’s wedding to Tanzanian singer Juma Jux, which featured guests spraying both naira and foreign currency.

According to Ojo, she was asked whether she was aware that such acts are illegal. She admitted that while she was aware that defacing or mutilating the naira is prohibited, she was unaware that spraying foreign currency is also against the law.

“The officials made it clear that spraying any form of currency, including dollars, especially on people, is not permitted,” she said. “I strongly advise Nigerians to refrain from spraying or mutilating money to avoid trouble with the EFCC.”

The wedding, which took place last month, was a high-profile event attended by numerous celebrities and dignitaries.

Ojo’s public advisory follows an increasing clampdown by the EFCC on acts deemed as abuse of currency at public events.
