Jide Kosoko calls on entertainers to join in civic reorientation over insecurity

Veteran Nollywood actor Jide Kosoko has called on members of the creative industry to play a more active role in addressing insecurity in the country, saying their contribution should go beyond public statements and appeals to government.

In a message addressed to fellow creatives, Kosoko said while it was important to lend support to efforts aimed at securing the release of abducted schoolchildren, stakeholders in the entertainment industry also had a responsibility to help shape positive values in society.

He stressed the need for creatives to use their platforms to educate citizens on decency, orderliness and civic responsibility, noting that public enlightenment could contribute to social stability and national development.

The veteran actor also urged filmmakers to stop promoting violence in movies and instead produce content that encourages unity, love and humanity.

According to him, the entertainment industry has a significant influence on public behaviour and should therefore be deliberate in promoting messages that foster peaceful coexistence.

Kosoko further called for greater public awareness on the role citizens can play in supporting security efforts, including vigilance, avoiding reckless display of wealth and reporting suspicious activities to relevant authorities.

He maintained that changing the narratives portrayed through films and other creative works could help transform society for the better.

“Our stories shape society. If we change the stories we tell, we will change the Nigeria we live in,” he said.
