The United Kingdom Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer has received President Bola Tinubu at Downing Street as part of the Nigerian leader official state visit to the UK.

According to the official programme released by the British government, President Tinubu is scheduled to hold high-level bilateral talks with Prime Minister Starmer, with discussions expected to focus on strengthening diplomatic relations, trade cooperation, and strategic partnerships between Nigeria and the United Kingdom.

Speaking during an interview on Sky News UK on Thursday, Sunday Dare, Special Adviser to President Tinubu on Media and Public Communication, disclosed that Nigeria and the UK are deepening their security relationship through a new defence pact aimed at improving military cooperation, training, and intelligence sharing.

He said the agreement reflects Nigeria’s commitment to building strong international alliances to combat terrorism and strengthen national security.

The presidential aide emphasised that Nigeria’s counter-terrorism efforts are being supported by strategic partnerships with countries such as the UK and the United States.

He added that the Tinubu administration is prioritising collaboration with global partners to strengthen Nigeria’s security architecture and improve its capacity to respond to evolving threats.
