Lagos Baales plan prayer rally, PVC campaign in support of Tinubu, Hamzat

The Lagos State Baales Forum, the umbrella body of traditional community heads across the state’s 20 Local Government Areas and 37 Local Council Development Areas, has announced plans to hold a special congregational prayer session and mobilisation rally ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The forum said the event, scheduled for June 23, 2026, in Lagos, will focus on prayers for President Bola Tinubu, Deputy Governor Kadri Obafemi Hamzat and the residents of the state, while also promoting civic participation among eligible voters.
Speaking on behalf of the forum’s convener, Dr. Seyi Bamigbade, the state chairman and Oba-elect of Ijeododo Kingdom, High Chief Abu Jelili Ododo, said the gathering followed consultations and stakeholder meetings held across the state.
Ododo said members of the forum reached a consensus to support the current administration at both the federal and state levels, describing the planned prayer session as a platform for promoting peace, unity and continuity in governance.
He said the forum would also use the occasion to formally launch its “Operation Show Your PVC” campaign, aimed at encouraging voter registration and participation in the electoral process ahead of the 2027 polls.
According to him, traditional institutions have a responsibility to foster peace and stability within their communities while supporting policies and programmes they believe will advance development and good governance.
The forum commended Tinubu’s administration for initiatives it said have strengthened traditional institutions, including measures aimed at improving the welfare of community leaders and enhancing grassroots administration. It also expressed confidence in the federal government’s economic reform agenda.
On the state’s political future, the forum described Hamzat’s administrative experience as an asset for sustaining the “Greater Lagos” development agenda. Ododo added that grassroots sensitisation efforts had already commenced across the 57 councils, urging eligible residents to obtain their Permanent Voter Cards to participate fully in future elections.
