North-East leaders endorse Tinubu, Shettima for 2027, pledge support for APC

President Bola Tinubu on Thursday received a major political boost ahead of the 2027 general election as governors, ministers, lawmakers, traditional rulers and other stakeholders from the North-East endorsed his re-election bid and pledged to mobilise support for the All Progressives Congress (APC) across the region.

The delegation, comprising leaders from the six North-East states, met with the President at the Presidential Villa, Abuja, where they also endorsed Vice-President Kashim Shettima as Tinubu’s running mate for the 2027 presidential election.

Leading the delegation, Borno State Governor Babagana Zulum said the visit was to appreciate the President for retaining Shettima on the ticket, describing the decision as a recognition of loyalty, competence and commitment.

“We are here for one overriding purpose, to show our appreciation and thank you most profoundly for the re-nomination of an accomplished son of our region, His Excellency Senator Kashim Shettima, as your vice-presidential running mate in the forthcoming 2027 presidential election,” Zulum said.

He added that Tinubu’s decision had further strengthened the confidence of the North-East in his administration.

“On behalf of the governors, ministers, members of the National Assembly, party leaders, women, youths and our teeming supporters, I assure Your Excellency that the North-East remains solidly behind your administration.

“We will continue to support your policies and programmes and mobilise our people at the grassroots to embrace the Renewed Hope Agenda. By the grace of God, come 2027, the North-East will massively deliver your presidential ticket and all APC candidates at every level.”

Zulum also commended the Federal Government’s interventions in the region, citing ongoing road projects, security efforts, investments in agriculture and education, youth empowerment initiatives and support for internally displaced persons.

Former Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Babagana Kingibe, said the delegation comprised respected leaders committed to supporting the administration.
