Ogun govt denies barring Gbenga Daniel from APC caucus meeting

The Ogun State Government has clarified the circumstances surrounding the absence of former governor and senator representing Ogun East, Gbenga Daniel, at a recent All Progressives Congress (APC) caucus meeting in the state.

Daniel had earlier claimed he was denied entry into the venue of the meeting, a development that sparked reactions after a video of him addressing supporters from a Coaster bus went viral.

However, the Special Adviser to the governor on Media and Strategy, Kayode Akinmade, said the former governor was not barred from attending the meeting.

According to him, Daniel failed to comply with established security protocols required for entry into the caucus meeting.

Akinmade explained that the meeting was restricted to invited members, and security operatives had requested Daniel to either alight from the bus and walk into the venue or arrive in a vehicle where occupants could be clearly identified.

He noted that the situation escalated when the former governor insisted on entering the venue with the bus, leading to a stalemate at the entrance.

“Nobody could have stopped the former governor if he had complied with the security protocol. All he needed to have done was either come out of the bus or use a car the security people can see through to be sure he is the only one or with invited people,” he said.

The government maintained that compliance with security guidelines was mandatory for all attendees, noting that Daniel would have been granted access if he had followed the laid-down procedures.
