VIDEO: One dead as clash erupts during Adeleke’s visit to Ataoja palace
The Osun State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has alleged that one person was killed and several others injured during a clash at the palace of the Ataoja of Osogbo, Oba Jimoh Oyetunji, on Wednesday.
The incident reportedly occurred during a courtesy visit to the palace by Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, and Afrobeats singer, David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido.
The APC Governorship Campaign Council, in a statement signed by its Head of Media and Publicity Committee, Oluremi Omowaiye, condemned the incident and called on the governor to take steps to prevent further violence in the state.
According to the council, the incident began when a supporter of the governor, Taoreed Ademola, popularly known as Small Rugged, allegedly attempted to exchange pleasantries with Davido but was prevented from approaching the singer by members of his security team.
The APC alleged that Small Rugged was subsequently assaulted, prompting members of his group to barricade the governor’s convoy. It said the confrontation later escalated into an exchange of gunfire, during which a passerby was reportedly killed and several others injured.
“This ugly development has accentuated the long-standing position of the Osun State APC that the people of the state are increasingly being exposed to political thuggery and violence perpetrated by hoodlums associated with the governor’s political camp,” the council said.
The council also linked the incident to what it described as a growing pattern of political violence in the state, citing a recent confrontation involving supporters of two political appointees of the governor, Dauda Olalekan Oyeyemi, popularly known as Emir Ajagungbade, and Wakeel Nurudeen, popularly known as Nurudeen Alowonle.
The APC urged Adeleke to call his supporters and political appointees to order, saying political disagreements should not be allowed to degenerate into violence or threaten the lives and property of residents.
