Osun police resolve Accord, APC clash over venues for final campaign rallies

The Osun State Police Command has resolved a disagreement between the Accord Party and the All Progressives Congress (APC) over the dates and venues of their final campaign rallies ahead of the August 15 governorship election.

In a statement signed by the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) of the command, DSP Abiodun Ojelabi, the resolution was reached at a strategic meeting convened by the Commissioner of Police (Elections), CP Samuel Erale Etaifo, with the leadership and representatives of the two parties to prevent any situation that could lead to a breakdown of law and order or confrontation between their supporters.

Ojelabi said that following deliberations, the two parties agreed on separate dates and venues for their final campaign rallies.

“It was mutually agreed that the Accord Party will hold its final campaign rally on Wednesday, 12th August, 2026, at Fakunle, while the All Progressives Congress (APC) will conduct its final campaign rally on Thursday, 13th August, 2026, at Freedom Park,” he said.

The commissioner of police commended the leadership of both parties for demonstrating maturity, patriotism and commitment to peaceful democratic engagement by embracing dialogue over conflict.

Etaifo urged political actors to caution their supporters, loyalists and foot soldiers to conduct themselves peacefully before, during and after the campaigns.

He emphasised that while the Nigeria Police Force remained neutral and committed to providing adequate security for all lawful political activities, the command would not tolerate any act capable of disrupting the relative peace in the state.

The police boss warned that anyone found engaging in violence, intimidation, thuggery, incitement or any other act capable of causing a breach of the peace would be arrested and prosecuted in accordance with the laws of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
