Shettima hails Tinubu on regional commissions, tasks S’West body

Vice-President Kashim Shettima on Wednesday praised President Bola Tinubu for establishing regional development commissions, describing the initiative as a strategic move to unlock the economic potential of Nigeria’s regions and drive inclusive national development.

Speaking while receiving the board and management of the South West Development Commission (SWDC) on a courtesy visit at the Presidential Villa, Abuja, Shettima said the commissions were created to harness the unique strengths of each region for the country’s collective prosperity.

He said the commissions must justify their establishment through innovation, collaboration and transparent service delivery, stressing that the Tinubu administration’s Renewed Hope Agenda is focused on translating government policies into measurable improvements in the lives of Nigerians.

“We must commend President Bola Tinubu for his foresight and directional leadership in establishing the regional development commissions,” the Vice-President said.

Addressing members of the SWDC, led by its chairman, Senator Olubunmi Adetunmbi, Shettima urged the commission to prioritise tangible development outcomes over bureaucracy.

“The South West region, with its history of enterprise, innovation, education and industry, has a pivotal role to play in Nigeria’s development journey. Your commission must be known for delivery, not bureaucracy. Nigerians will measure your success by the quality of roads built, jobs created, businesses supported and communities transformed,” he said.

The Vice-President also stressed the need for strong collaboration among state governments, traditional institutions, the private sector and development partners to ensure the commission delivers on its mandate.

According to him, successful regions across the world are built on investments in innovation, technology, human capital and regional integration.
