As part of his tour of Nasarawa State, the Soun of Ogbomoso, Oba Ghandi Afolabi Olaoye, on Wednesday paid a courtesy visit to the Emir of Lafia, retired Justice Sidi Bage Mohammed I, at his palace.
During the visit, the Soun and his entourage were taken on a guided tour of the Lafia Palace Museum.
Sharing details of the visit on his official social media platforms, the Soun expressed admiration for the architectural beauty of the palace and the rich history it represents.
“What struck me instantly was not just the palace’s architectural elegance, but the deep sense of history it embodies. The Emir personally led us through his palace museum — a rich tapestry of ancestral legacies preserved through royal regalia, ancient relics, historic documents, and cultural artifacts. Each piece told a powerful story of the Lafia Emirate’s noble past, reminding us of the enduring strength of tradition and identity. Equally inspiring was the Emir himself — a man of wisdom, humility, and vision,” he wrote.
The two monarchs also discussed issues of mutual interest, including the role of traditional institutions in national unity, cultural preservation, and effective leadership.
“It was a meeting of shared values and mutual respect, one that reaffirmed my belief in the importance of collaboration among traditional rulers as custodians of peace and heritage. As I walked through the historical corridors of the palace, I reflected deeply on the importance of preserving our past — not only to honor those who came before us, but to give guidance and meaning to those who will come after,” the Soun stated.
Oba Olaoye extended his gratitude to the Emir of Lafia for the warm hospitality, describing the Emir’s vision and dedication to collective heritage as deeply inspiring.
He also offered prayers for the continued endurance of cultural values and for unity and peace to flourish across the country.
