Tinubu congratulates Oyebanji on Ekiti re-election victory

President Bola Tinubu has congratulated Biodun Abayomi Oyebanji on his victory in Saturday’s Ekiti State governorship election, describing the outcome as a strong endorsement of the governor’s performance in office.

Western Post had earlier reported that Oyebanji secured re-election with 319,224 votes, defeating his closest challenger, Dr. Wole Oluyede of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), who polled 40,543 votes, and Ambassador Dare Bejide of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) who garnered 12,872 votes.

In a statement issued on Sunday by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, the President commended the people of Ekiti State for their peaceful conduct during the election and for renewing their mandate for Oyebanji.

Tinubu also praised security agencies for maintaining order during the exercise and urged the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to sustain efforts at delivering credible elections ahead of the Osun governorship election in August and the general election next year.

“With his overwhelming victory in the election, Oyebanji has emerged as the first governor in the history of Ekiti State to win re-election back-to-back,” the President said.

Tinubu noted that the governor’s first term was marked by progress in key sectors, including infrastructure, agriculture, youth employment, education, healthcare and rural development.

“The renewed mandate is therefore a clear vote of confidence in continuity, stability, and people-centred governance,” he said.

The President urged Oyebanji to be magnanimous in victory and embrace all residents of the state as he begins another term in office.

“He should remain magnanimous in victory and carry all Ekiti people along as he consolidates on his achievements in the next four years,” Tinubu stated.
