President Bola Tinubu on Friday paid a condolence visit to the family of the late President Muhammadu Buhari in Kaduna, assuring them that his administration would continue to uphold the values and legacies of the late Nigerian leader.
The President was received at the Buhari residence by the late president’s widow, Aisha Buhari, their son, Yusuf, and other family members.
Speaking during the visit, President Tinubu said Buhari’s contributions to Nigeria would endure beyond his passing.
“We are here to assure you that we share in your grief and pain. A loss in flesh is not a loss in spirit, and the spirit he left with us is one of hard work, dedication, patriotism, and honesty. We assure you and the entire family that we will continue to uphold our leader’s legacy—the mark he made on Nigeria,” Tinubu said.
He prayed for Nigeria’s peace and unity, pledging that his government would remain guided by Buhari’s example of “honesty, integrity, and great character.”
Responding, Mrs. Aisha Buhari expressed gratitude to President Tinubu and his delegation for standing by the family in their time of grief, describing the visit as consoling. She called on Nigerians to emulate her late husband’s virtues of “honesty, integrity, tolerance, accountability, and justice.”
Among those who accompanied the President were Senate President Godswill Akpabio, House Speaker Tajudeen Abbas, Governors Abdulrahman AbdulRazaq (Kwara), Mai Mala Buni (Yobe), Babagana Zulum (Borno), and Ahmed Aliyu (Sokoto), as well as key cabinet members and security chiefs.
Earlier in the day, President Tinubu attended the wedding of Nasirudeen Yari, son of former Zamfara State governor and serving senator Abdulaziz Yari. The ceremony, held at Sultan Bello Mosque in Kaduna, saw the President stand in to receive the groom’s bride, Safiyya Shehu Idris, following the payment of a ₦1 million dowry.
