Why Rivers must prepare for post Fubara era, by Kola Amzat

It’s neither by emotions nor whipping up sentiments. It goes beyond calling for the intervention of elders of Niger-Delta Region.

Equally, It’s not by the governor’s appearance at the Church, declaring that peace would soon return to the prodigiously oil & gas endowed enclave in the heart of Niger Delta Region. Peace doesn’t come in the atmosphere of mutual disrespect.

Of course, it’s also not by attacking and derogating the name of FCT Minister, Wike Nyesom, labelling him as the mastermind of the impeachment plot against the governor.

It’s ONLY by the governor and his deputy responding adequately to damning allegations and infractions in governance, alleged against them by the Rivers State House of Assembly.

Pertinent question to the sympathizers and apologists of the governor: Could any of the allegations be a subject of controversy?

If they’re agreeable with the legion of gross misconduct of the Chief Executive and his deputy, then, it’s important that Rivers State should be allowed to move on from the troubled-filled and rancorous regime of Mr.Simi Fubara.

The elders and other major stakeholders should allow the long-suffering members of the assembly to carry out their constitutional responsibilities after suffering humiliation, deprivation and rejection for about thirty two (32) months that Governor Fubara has been in charge.

Indeed, it would be counterproductive and sheer dissipation of energy by attempting to halt the assembly members from carrying out their duties.

It’s crystal clear that this governor doesn’t understand the language, ethos, principles and demands of democratic practice.

The governor doesn’t have the temperament, political-knowhow and of course, discerning mind, to manage a very important state like Rivers.

It’s pertinent that Nigerians must understand that, his running from pillar to post to keep his job is not rooted in his determination to foster peace & tranquility, as well as growth & development of the state, but rather, anchored in his desire to continue to enjoy the allure and paraphernalia of office.

It’s also instructive to submit that the governor doesn’t love the job; if he does, he would have embraced wisdom and equanimity in their totality, after returning back to office from the Emergency rule spell.

The die is cast! The political situation has hit the point of no return!

The impeachment must go on! Let no one expect heaven to fall.

Indeed, the impeachment would herald a better and perhaps, more prosperous Rivers state.

To APC with absolute control of the house of assembly, it would be the dawn of a new era. Post Fubara era would be an opportune time to consolidate power, and having latitude to commence the process of identifying a suitable candidate that would hoist the governorship flag of the party, as well as other elective offices during the forthcoming general elections.

To the house of assembly, nothing changes, as the Speaker and another top member of the house of assembly automatically assume governor and deputy governor office.

The greatest beneficiary of the new era would be the people of Rivers state who have in the last thirty (30) months endured tough and troubled times under Mr.Simi Fubara, suffering and agonizing in deprivation, regrettably, in the midst of humongous resources available to the state, simply on account of bad governance.

Since inauguration of the governor, infrastructural developments in education, roads construction & rehabilitation, medical facility, socio-economic development have all greatly suffered, as the governor prefers undue struggle for power and authority with other stakeholders.

It’s also instructive to submit that the post Fubara era would facilitate the consolidation of power blocs under the control of FCT, Minister, Wike Nyesom, who, in all intents and purposes, is political power broker in the state.

That Wike controls the politics of Rivers is not contestable. To all stakeholders, it’s one fact they must live with.

Political leaders across divides, leaders of thoughts, groups of militants, CSOs, students, market leaders and other stakeholders find comfort with him. He plays his game and plays it well.

There is absolutely nothing anyone could do about this.

And, finally, post Fubara era would afford some degree of peace to President, Commander-in-Chief, of Armed Forces, Federal Republic of Nigeria Asiwaju Bola Tinubu (GCFR) who continually combine the onerous tasks of managing a diverse and difficult Nigeria state, with his continual intervention in the problem of Rivers state.

Indeed, the president needs enough rest from Rivers state conundrum.
