Operatives of the Osun State Security Network Agency, Amotekun Corps, have foiled a midnight armed robbery along the Ilesa–Ibadan Expressway, rescued several travellers, and arrested one suspect.

The incident occurred in the early hours of Wednesday, at about 12:20 a.m., during a routine patrol by Amotekun operatives attached to the Ilesa Area Command.

In a statement made available to newsmen, the corps spokesperson, Yusuf Abass, said the patrol team was alerted by a motorist who had just been attacked by suspected armed robbers on the expressway.

He said the operatives immediately moved to the scene, disrupted the robbery operation, and that on sighting the Amotekun patrol vehicle, the suspects fled into the surrounding bush.

According to the spokesperson, one of them, identified as Chinedu Eze, a 32-year-old from Ebonyi State, was apprehended while attempting to escape.

Items recovered from the suspect included a cutlass, a torchlight, and a locally made wooden gun designed to resemble an AK-47 rifle, allegedly used to intimidate motorists on the expressway.

During preliminary investigation, the suspect reportedly confessed to the crime and disclosed that his accomplices escaped on noticing the presence of Amotekun operatives. Efforts are ongoing to apprehend the fleeing suspects.

Confirming the arrest, the Corps Commander of the Osun Amotekun Corps, Isaac Omoyele, reiterated the Corps’ commitment to ensuring the safety of lives and property across Osun State, urging residents to continue supporting Amotekun by promptly providing credible information on suspicious activities or security breaches within their communities.
