Gunmen have abducted two persons along the Idi Ayunre axis of the Ibadan-Ijebu Ode road in Oluyole Local Government Area of Oyo State.

The incident occurred on Tuesday when the attackers reportedly ambushed travellers heading toward Ijebu Ode from Ibadan.

Eyewitnesses said the armed men fired several shots into the air to scare away motorists before whisking the victims to an unknown destination in a commando-style operation.

Sources said panic gripped road users and residents in the area following the attack, which temporarily disrupted movement along the route.

As of the time of filing this report, the abductors had yet to contact the victims’ families or make any ransom demands.

The Oyo State Police Command confirmed the incident and said investigations had commenced to track down the attackers and rescue the victims.

Police authorities also assured residents that security operatives had intensified surveillance and patrols along the corridor to prevent further attacks.

The latest incident has heightened concerns over insecurity along major highways linking Oyo State with neighbouring states, as commuters continue to call for increased security presence on the roads.
