Only family, lawyers, doctors can see El-Rufai — ICPC tells ADC

The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) says only family members, lawyers, and doctors are allowed to visit former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, who is currently in its custody and standing trial for multiple corruption cases.

The ICPC Chairman, Dr. Musa Adamu Aliyu (SAN), disclosed this in a letter dated May 22, 2026, addressed to the National Secretary of the ADC, Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola. The letter was signed on his behalf by the Director of Operations, S. Yahaya.

The correspondence was issued on the same day ADC chieftains reportedly visited El-Rufai but were denied access. Those on the delegation included Aregbesola and the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Bolaji Abdullahi.

In the letter titled “RE: PLANNED VISIT TO MALLAM NASIR EL-RUFAI,” the ICPC stated that El-Rufai is facing trial before the Kaduna State High Court and the Federal High Court sitting in Kaduna.

It explained that although he is in the Commission’s custody by court order, access is strictly limited to only approved categories of persons.

“The court has granted access to the defendant to his family, doctors and counsels. These are the only category of persons granted access to see the defendant in the Commission’s custody,” the letter stated.

It added that the request by the ADC could not be granted.

Meanwhile, ICPC spokesperson John Okor Odey also confirmed to our correspondent that the restriction is strictly determined by the court order.

“The court order is that his family, his lawyers and his doctors be given access to him. ADC is none of these,” he said.

He added: “Please ask them the reason we gave for refusing their request to visit. If they are not forthcoming with the truth, here it is.”
