Mofe Duncan slams Daddy Freeze over criticism of Alexx Ekubo’s tribute ceremony
By Folashade Olorunfemi –
Nollywood actor Mofe Duncan and media personality Latasha Ngwube have lashed out at broadcaster Daddy Freeze over his criticism of the service of songs held on Wednesday in honour of late actor Alexx Ekubo.
The controversy erupted after Daddy Freeze shared a video online criticising the dress code for the event, as well as the worship session led by Evangelist Nathaniel Bassey and gospel singer Mercy Chinwo.
According to him, black would have been more appropriate than the white attire chosen by the family, considering the age of the deceased. He also argued that traditional hymns would have been preferable to Mercy Chinwo’s performance, accusing her of turning a solemn and reflective ceremony into a high-energy concert.
Reacting to the development, both Mofe Duncan and Latasha Ngwube expressed strong disapproval of his remarks, insisting that the ceremony was not about him.
Defending the event, Duncan said several hymns were sung during the service, but suggested Daddy Freeze may have missed them because he arrived late. He added that the worship session was fitting because close associates of the late actor had revealed that he loved worship while he was alive.
The actor also expressed dissatisfaction with the broadcaster’s choice of outfit for the event, despite instructions that guests should wear white. He further criticised Daddy Freeze for allegedly leaving the ceremony angrily and later boasting about it.
For her part, Latasha questioned the genuineness of Daddy Freeze’s presence at the event, asking whether he was truly a friend of Alex or not. She argued that the broadcaster should not have attended if he did not have a close relationship with the late actor.
Daddy Freeze’s comments on the event have continued to generate mixed reactions online. While some people argued that he was merely carrying out his role as a commentator, others maintained that his remarks were disrespectful to the deceased.
