VeryDarkMan opens up on rift with Davido, Zlatan over Mohbad’s death

Martins Ose, the social media activist popularly known VeryDarkMan, has explained his fallout with Nigerian singer Davido, rapper Zlatan Ibile and other celebrities, linking the disagreements to their differing positions during the campaign for justice for late singer Mohbad.

The activist made the revelation on Thursday in a video addressed to members of the Ratel Movement, recounting how the campaign, which initially united several personalities, eventually contributed to divisions among them.

VeryDarkMan said his involvement began when he questioned singer Naira Marley over Mohbad’s complaints about his former record label, Marlian Records. He explained that he later broadened his inquiries to other circumstances surrounding the singer’s death, insisting that his interest was to ensure accountability and justice for the deceased.

Speaking about his relationship with Davido, the activist said their friendship began in 2024 after the singer followed him on social media. However, he claimed the relationship deteriorated in 2025 after he obtained a WhatsApp group conversation allegedly showing that some people within Davido’s circle had discussed issues connected to his arrest in 2024.

He said he repeatedly contacted Davido for clarification but received no response. VeryDarkMan added that he later encountered a blog report suggesting that he intended to record a conversation with the singer and use it against him, describing the development as a betrayal of their friendship.

The activist also alleged that some individuals involved in the campaign for Mohbad were more interested in settling personal scores with Naira Marley than seeking justice for the late singer. He further claimed that efforts were made to persuade Zinoleesky to leave Marlian Records during the controversy, but the singer declined.

Turning to Zlatan, VeryDarkMan criticised the rapper for allegedly remaining silent during the initial campaign for justice for Mohbad. He also accused him of using the attention generated by the singer’s death to promote their collaborative song, Account Balance, arguing that the move contradicted the campaign’s objectives.

VeryDarkMan said he no longer wished to associate with either Davido or Zlatan, adding that his disagreement with Davido also involved the singer’s political position and support for his uncle’s political ambition. He maintained that his criticism was not driven by jealousy but by what he considered actions that undermined the campaign for justice for Mohbad. However, the allegations against the two entertainers remain the activist’s claims.
