Residents of Igboho in Oorelope Local Government Area of Oyo State, on Saturday, celebrated the reported release of a family allegedly abducted by kidnappers in the community.
The victims, who reportedly included a pregnant woman, her children and a sibling, regained their freedom hours after Yoruba Nation activist, Chief Sunday Adeyemo, popularly known as Sunday Igboho, issued a two-hour ultimatum demanding their release.
Videos circulating on social media showed jubilant residents singing and dancing as news of the family’s return spread across the town.
The circumstances surrounding the victims’ release were not immediately clear at the time of filing this report.
Earlier, Western Post reported that Sunday Igboho confronted leaders of the Fulani community in Igboho over allegations of kidnapping and insecurity in the area, accusing some members of the community of being linked to abductions and attacks on residents.
While confronting the Fulani community leaders, the activist also alleged that a person was killed while trying to pay ransom for the abductees’ release, warning that kidnapping and killings would no longer be tolerated in the community.
Igboho therefore gave community leaders a two-hour ultimatum to ensure the release of the abducted persons, threatening consequences if they failed to comply.
At the moment, security agencies are yet to issue an official statement on the reported release or the allegations surrounding the incident.
