UPDATE: Detailed results show extent of Oyebanji’s victory in Ekiti poll

A follow-up review of the official results of the Ekiti State governorship election has revealed how candidates of smaller political parties fared in the contest won by Governor Biodun Oyebanji of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Western Post had earlier reported that Oyebanji secured re-election with 319,224 votes, defeating his closest challenger, Dr. Wole Oluyede of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), who polled 40,543 votes, and Ambassador Dare Bejide of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) who garnered 12,872 votes.

Subsequent examination of the full results released by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) showed that candidates of other political parties recorded significantly lower vote totals across the state.

According to the official figures, the Action Democratic Party (ADP) candidate, Ojo Ayodeji, had 1,269 votes, while Accord candidate Falegan Opeyemi David secured 564 votes. The Labour Party candidate, Olajuyin Ikusayedegbe Oyebanji, polled 276 votes.

The African Action Congress (AAC) candidate, Akande Oluwasegun Samuel, received 195 votes, while Aluko Abiodun Isaac of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) secured 179 votes. Ayodele Olaniyi Olanrewaju Praise of the Peoples Redemption Party (PRP) polled 163 votes.

Other candidates included Omotosho Mathew Olu of the Action Alliance (AA) with 126 votes, Adetunji Victor Damilola of the Zenith Labour Party (ZLP) with 113 votes, and Osinkolu Oluwasegun Ayodele of the Young Progressives Party (YPP) with 98 votes.

The Action Peoples Party (APP) candidate, Awogbemi Bidemi Olaiya, secured 61 votes, while Anifowoshe Joseph Olanrewaju of the Allied Peoples Movement (APM) polled 59 votes. Abegunde Ayobami Blessing of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) recorded 35 votes.

A breakdown of the local government results further underscored Oyebanji’s dominance across the state. The APC candidate won all 16 local government areas, posting notable victories in Ado Ekiti with 38,026 votes, Ekiti West with 28,258 votes, Ikole with 26,508 votes, Irepodun/Ifelodun with 29,278 votes, and Ekiti East with 26,359 votes, cementing one of the most decisive electoral victories in the state’s recent history.
