Faithia Williams’ recent movie and cinematic debut, Efunroye: The Unicorn, has emerged as the highest-grossing Nollywood film of the weekend at the box office, following concerns over alleged efforts to frustrate the movie’s cinema run.

The development was announced by the movie’s distributor, FilmOne, in an appreciation post on Tuesday. The distributor revealed that the movie recorded a whopping N102 million at the box office, appreciating Nigerians for their support and patronage.

Corroborating the report, Faithia Williams also took to her Instagram page to express appreciation to her fans and supporters over the achievement, attributing the success of the movie to their efforts.

This comes following the filmmaker’s outburst on Friday over alleged attempts to frustrate her movie at cinemas. She cited poor scheduling and the discouragement of fans and supporters at cinemas despite the extensive promotional efforts she made.

Efunroye: The Unicorn is a biopic centred on the life of legendary merchant and kingmaker, Madam Efunroye Tinubu. The film is an artistic interpretation of Madam Tinubu’s 19th-century life, exploring themes of power, cultural identity and resistance to colonialism.

The movie, which premiered in cinemas on May 1, 2026, was produced by Faithia Williams and directed by Abbey Lanre, Adebayo Tijani and Tope Adebayo Salami.

It features a stellar cast, including Faithia Williams, Odunlade Adekola, Ibrahim Chatta, Femi Adebayo, Mercy Aigbe, Femi Branch, Kolawole Ajeyemi and Layi Wasabi, among others.
