Governor Adeleke declares total lockdown, enforces 24-hour curfew in Igbajo

Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, has imposed an immediate 24-hour curfew on Igbajo in Boluwaduro Local Government Area following a violent breakdown of law and order that continued into the early hours of Monday.

Trouble reportedly began when a clash erupted between loyalists of the immediate past chairman of the All Progressives Congress in Osun State, Oba Gboyega Famodun, who died last Friday, and supporters of the current monarch, Oba Ademola Makinde.

The fight, which started on Sunday, escalated on Monday morning after chiefs and community members loyal to the late monarch stormed the town’s market to shut it as a mark of honour.

Supporters of the current Owa, however, insisted that traders should continue their normal business activities, leading to a confrontation that quickly degenerated into chaos.

In response, Governor Adeleke announced a full lockdown, directing that the curfew takes immediate effect and will remain in place until peace is completely restored.

The governor, through a statement issued by his Commissioner for Information, Kolapo Alimi, condemned the disturbance and warned that his administration would not tolerate any form of civil disorder in the state.

“With effect from today, Monday, 1/12/2025, a contingent of all security personnel comprising the Army, Police, DSS and Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) should take charge by maintaining 24-hour surveillance in Igbajo,” the governor declared.

He also commiserated with the family of the late Prince Adegboyega Famodun and the entire Igbajo community, praying for the repose of his soul.
