IGP commends Sergeant Tanko for outstanding academic achievement in China

The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olukayode Adeolu Egbetokun, Ph.D., NPM, has commended Sergeant Peter Theophilus Tanko for his exceptional academic performance in the People’s Republic of China.
Sergeant Tanko, attached to the INTERPOL Section of the Force Criminal Investigations Department (FCID), completed a five-year law programme in China under a government-sponsored scholarship.
His academic journey began with a one-year Chinese language course at Nanjing Normal University, after which he proceeded to Jiangsu Police Institute for his Bachelor’s Degree in Law.
Tanko distinguished himself throughout his studies and emerged as the best graduating student at the Institute. In recognition of his outstanding performance, he was selected to deliver the valedictory speech on behalf of all international students during the convocation ceremony held in June 2023.
On Tuesday, April 22, 2025, the Inspector-General received Sergeant Tanko at the Force Headquarters, Abuja, praising his discipline, commitment, and academic excellence. The IGP described Tanko’s achievement as a source of pride to the Nigeria Police Force and the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
IGP Egbetokun emphasized that Tanko’s success reflects the vast potential within the Force, reaffirming his administration’s commitment to promoting professional growth, academic excellence, and capacity building among officers.
He urged officers across commands and formations to emulate Sergeant Tanko’s example by pursuing both service excellence and personal development, stressing that the future strength of the Force lies not just in operational capability, but also in intellectual advancement and global exposure.
