Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, has declared his administration’s readiness to share its primary healthcare development model with the Federal Government.
He made this known on Tuesday during the launch of the 2025 Omituntun Free Medical Mission at the Ibadan North-East Local Government Secretariat, Ibadan. Makinde noted that his administration had established functional Category 3 Primary Healthcare Centres (PHCs) across most of the state’s 351 electoral wards to improve healthcare access.
According to the governor, the model has been effective in delivering quality healthcare services and could serve as a viable template for the Federal Government’s planned healthcare expansion.
“Only recently, the Vice President announced plans by the Federal Government to build 8,800 PHCs nationwide. Before that, we had already begun renovating and equipping PHCs across all 351 wards in Oyo State,” he said.
“We are happy to offer our template. It has worked here and I am confident it can work at the federal level as well,” he added.
Makinde emphasized that accessible healthcare remains a cornerstone of his administration’s policy, with the ultimate goal of fostering a healthy population that can drive economic growth and reduce poverty.
He also expressed gratitude to key figures in the state’s health sector for their contributions, including Professor Temitope Alonge, Dr. Muideen Olatunji, the Commissioner for Health, Dr. Oluwaserimi Ajetunmobi, and the Chairman of the State Hospital Management Board, Dr. Akin Fagbemi.
“I appreciate all the Permanent Secretaries and healthcare practitioners for their dedication to delivering our health sector agenda,” the governor said.
