A midnight fire has destroyed goods worth millions of naira at a shop located in the Oja-Igbo area, behind the Soun Palace in Ogbomoso, Oyo State.
The incident occurred around 12:30 a.m. on Sunday, July 13, and was confirmed by the Chairman of the Oyo State Fire Service, Mr. Maroof Akinwande.
In an official statement, Akinwande disclosed that the fire service was alerted to the incident by a passerby, enabling a swift response.
“At exactly 00:30 hours, a distress call was received from a concerned citizen, prompting immediate deployment of our fire crew led by PFS11 Oluwaleye to the scene,” the statement read.
Upon arrival, firefighters met the shop already engulfed in flames and promptly commenced containment efforts to prevent the fire from spreading to adjacent structures.
Although only one shop out of a row of fifteen was affected, significant damage was recorded, with goods inside the affected premises completely destroyed.
“The prompt intervention of the fire service prevented the blaze from escalating. Properties worth millions of naira were saved,” Akinwande said.
No casualties were reported, and an investigation is expected to determine the cause of the fire.
