2027 elections: APC chieftain cautions opposition against heating up polity

By Deborah Oladejo, Osogbo –

A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Osun State, Hon. Olatunbosun Oyintiloye, has warned opposition leaders against making inflammatory statements capable of heating up the polity ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Speaking on Sunday in Osogbo, Oyintiloye, a former member of the Osun State House of Assembly, expressed concern over the growing tension in the country, which he attributed to the utterances and actions of some opposition figures.

He noted that although the next general elections are still nearly two years away, the political climate is already becoming unnecessarily charged.

The APC chieftain specifically condemned a statement allegedly made by former Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi, which called for violent protests to force a change of government before 2027. He described the statement as reckless and unpatriotic.

Oyintiloye, who also served as a member of the defunct Presidential Campaign Council (PCC), stressed that what Nigeria needs at this time is the consolidation of democratic gains, not agitations that could spark unrest.

While acknowledging that political coalitions are a legitimate part of democratic processes, he cautioned against using such platforms to incite public discontent.

“We don’t have any other country except Nigeria, and it would be unwise to destroy it with careless utterances and actions driven by power hunger. What the country needs now are patriotic leaders who can work with the present administration to build a better future, create wealth, and sustain peace and progress,” he said.

Oyintiloye urged opposition leaders to support President Tinubu’s administration and refrain from actions that could disrupt national unity and stability.
