Osun APC chieftains sue IGP, Adeleke aide over alleged threats

By Deborah Oladejo, Osogbo
Two chieftains of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Osun State, Jamiu Olawumi and Adebayo Adedeji, have filed a fundamental rights enforcement suit at the Federal High Court, Osogbo, against the Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun; Wale Bolorunduro, a senior aide to Governor Ademola Adeleke; the Assistant Inspector General of Police in charge of Zone 11; and Inspector Nancy of the ZID.
Olawumi, a broadcast journalist and former Special Adviser on Education to ex-Governor Adegboyega Oyetola, and Adedeji, the head of digital media for Osun APC, described the actions as serial police intimidation linked to cyber-stalking and cyber-bullying allegations.
In the originating summons dated May 22, 2025, the applicants accused Bolorunduro of using state machinery to harass them, violating their fundamental rights to liberty, privacy, and freedom of movement as guaranteed under the 1999 Constitution.
The suit, marked FHC/OS/CS/106/2025, alleges that since May 12, the respondents have trailed them without justification, targeting them for playing their role as opposition figures challenging Governor Adeleke’s administration.
They claimed they were never invited for questioning, but instead faced backdoor attempts at arrest allegedly instigated by Bolorunduro. Their counsel’s efforts to obtain details of the petition and official invitation were allegedly denied.
The applicants argued that, as citizens, they are entitled to protection of their rights and should not be subjected to intimidation or harassment by law enforcement on political grounds.
They are seeking N5 million in compensation for false allegations intended to traumatize and defame them, an additional N6 million in aggravated damages, and a public apology for the psychological and emotional distress suffered by them and their families.
