Oyintiloye urges Tinubu to focus on governance, security ahead of 2027
An All Progressives Congress (APC) chieftain in Osun State, Olatunbosun Oyintiloye, has urged President Bola Tinubu not to be distracted by opposition tactics ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Oyintiloye made the call while speaking with journalists on Sunday in Osogbo, urging the president to focus on governance and confront security threats identified by security agencies, particularly amid recent alerts over possible attacks on vulnerable locations in parts of southern Nigeria.
The former lawmaker urged the President to support security agencies in intensifying surveillance, improving intelligence gathering and strengthening inter-agency collaboration. He also called for increased security around schools, places of worship, National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) facilities, parks, garages and other vulnerable locations, particularly with schools in session.
He said security agencies should work closely together, share intelligence and strengthen rapid-response mechanisms. He also called for an immediate, thorough and transparent investigation into recent killings in Osun State, with anyone found culpable prosecuted in accordance with the law.
“If necessary, service chiefs should review and adjust their operational strategies without hesitation, as time is of the essence. State governors should also complement the President’s efforts by providing adequate support and resources to security agencies within their jurisdictions,” Oyintiloye said.
He appealed to transport workers, community leaders, traditional rulers and religious leaders to remain calm and cooperate with security agencies by providing credible information that could assist investigations and prevent further violence.
The APC chieftain also called for stronger security intelligence through adequate training, equipment and resources, while urging state governors and local government chairmen to strengthen local intelligence and maintain peace in their communities.
Oyintiloye stressed that insecurity could undermine economic growth, infrastructure development, investment and social services. He urged citizens to remain vigilant, provide timely information to security agencies and continue to pray for peace, unity and progress in the country.
