Oyo LGSC completes staff verification across 33 councils

The Oyo State Local Government Service Commission (LGSC) has completed a comprehensive staff verification exercise across all 33 local government areas of the state.

Chairman of the commission, Bashorun Akinwale Akinwole, who led the exercise alongside board members, the Permanent Secretary, and other top officials, commended Governor Seyi Makinde for his commitment to manpower development and workers’ welfare.

The exercise, which began on August 11, was designed to ensure compliance with service rules, review staff welfare and office conditions, authenticate workforce figures on council payrolls, update staff records, and generate reliable manpower data to strengthen service delivery.

Speaking with journalists in Ibadan, Akinwole said the exercise offered valuable insights into staff conduct, discipline, and office conditions across the state. He assured that a comprehensive report would soon be released, while urging local government staff to embrace punctuality, diligence, and dedication to duty.

Permanent Secretary of the commission, Deacon Taiwo Adewale, explained that the audit became necessary due to a steady decline in staff strength caused by retirements, deaths, and other factors. He noted that the verification also assessed levels of discipline, particularly attendance at work.

The initiative drew commendation from stakeholders, including the Chairman of the Conference of Heads of Local Government Administration in Oyo State, Alhaji Owolabi Aderemi, who described it as a timely move that would aid effective government planning.

Similarly, the President of the National Union of Local Government Employees (NULGE), Mr. Ayobami Olusegun Adeogun, hailed the exercise as unprecedented, stressing that the leadership’s direct engagement with all 33 councils was a morale booster for workers.

Chairman of the Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON), Oyo State chapter, Hon. Sanda Sikiru Oyedele, also praised the LGSC, describing the exercise as groundbreaking. He reaffirmed that Governor Makinde’s administration is committed to ensuring a conducive working environment for civil servants, urging workers to reciprocate by upholding discipline and professionalism.
