The Oyo State Road Traffic Management Authority (OYRTMA) on Monday reviewed fines for various traffic offences to promote road safety and reduce accidents.
The Chairman of OYRTMA, Adekoya Adesagba, announced this during a meeting with zonal commanders held at the agency’s secretariat in Agodi, Ibadan.
Adesagba said the essence of OYRTMA was not to generate internal revenue but to safeguard the lives and property of people across the state and ensure smooth traffic flow.
According to the new directive, driving an unlicensed motorcycle or tricycle will attract a fine of ₦25,000, while failure to paint a commercial motorcycle or tricycle in the approved colours will attract ₦20,000 for a first-time offender and ₦30,000 for repeat offenders.
The OYRTMA Chairman added, “Driving in a prohibited direction will attract ₦100,000 for a first-time offender and ₦200,000 for a repeat offender. Failure to park at designated motor parks will attract ₦20,000 for a first offence and ₦30,000 for subsequent offences.”
Adesagba stressed that the revised fines are designed to deter repeat offences and encourage compliance with traffic regulations.
He warned officers against collecting bribes or misbehaving while on duty, adding that anyone caught would face disciplinary action, including possible demotion.
He also appointed Abolade Salami and Babatunde Hamzat, presenters of Agbami Oselu on a local broadcasting station in Ibadan, as OYRTMA marshals.
