The Soun of Ogbomoso, Oba Ghandi Afolabi Olaoye, on Tuesday joined sons and daughters of Ogbomosoland to honour the life and legacy of the late former Governor of Oyo State, Otunba Christopher Adebayo Alao-Akala.
In a heartfelt tribute to the former governor’s enduring legacy, the Alao-Akala family, in collaboration with the royal palace of Ogbomosoland, laid the foundation for the Alao-Akala Primary Health Care Centre in Yaku, Oriire Local Government Area of the state.
The groundbreaking ceremony, which took place beside the Big Abass Mosque in Yaku, marked the 75th posthumous birthday of the late leader. The project is part of the 25-Year Developmental Plan of Ogbomosoland championed by the Soun, Oba Olaoye.

Speaking at the event, Oba Olaoye described Alao-Akala as “a giant, a patriot, and a legend” who led with “heart, vision, and unmatched dedication.” He said, “This isn’t just a remembrance; it’s a celebration of purpose. Ogbomosoland remembers a man who carried this land in his heart and on his shoulders. Today, his name continues to inspire progress.”
He added: “Special thanks to High Chief Ojewumi Oyeniyi Sunday, the Baale of Yaku, and the entire Yaku community for your selflessness in releasing land for the development of our homeland. Your gesture is a gift to generations. To Prof. O.A. Ladipo, Chairman of the Medical and Health Committee for our 25-Year Developmental Plan — thank you for your tireless leadership in bringing world-class healthcare to our people.”

“Dr. M.B. Olatunji, Director of Primary Health Care, Oyo State — thank you for your commitment and support in making this vision a reality.
“To the Alao-Akala family — thank you for allowing us to immortalize Otunba’s name through the Alao-Akala Primary Health Care Centre in Yaku. This is more than a building; it is a symbol of enduring love and service. As we lay the foundation for this centre today, we aren’t just building a structure — we’re cementing a legacy. A legacy of compassion. Of service. Of leadership that put people first.”

Oba Olaoye concluded: “Otunba Alao-Akala taught us that true leadership isn’t about titles — it’s about heart. And today we are challenged to ask ourselves: Are we carrying Ogbomoso in our hearts the way he did? Wherever we find ourselves, may we never forget home. May we serve. May we build. May we invest. That’s how legacies are made. That’s how legends live on. May his memory continue to inspire us. May his legacy continue to guide us. May Ogbomosoland continue to rise.”
