Unilorin gets 100% NUC accreditation

The management of the University of Ilorin has announced that 36 out of the 37 academic programmes it presented for the National Universities Commission (NUC) accreditation exercise have secured full accreditation, with the remaining one receiving interim accreditation.
This was disclosed in a statement signed by the Director of Corporate Affairs of the institution, Kunle Akogun, on Tuesday in Ilorin. The result of the accreditation, conducted in October and November 2024, was communicated in a letter dated April 30, 2025, and addressed to the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Wahab Olasupo Egbewole (SAN), by the NUC Executive Secretary, Prof. Abdullahi Yusufu Ribadu.
According to the statement, the letter signed on behalf of Prof. Ribadu by the Acting Director of Accreditation, Engr. Abraham Chundusu, confirmed that none of the courses was denied accreditation. The only programme granted interim accreditation was Hausa.
From the Faculty of Management Sciences, Finance was granted full accreditation. Anatomy, the only programme presented from the Faculty of Basic Medical Sciences, also received full accreditation. Likewise, Computer Science from the Faculty of Communication and Information Sciences was accredited.
The Faculty of Education recorded full accreditation for all 17 academic programmes presented. In the Faculty of Engineering and Technology, both Chemical Engineering and Mechanical Engineering received full accreditation. All programmes presented from the Faculties of Environmental Sciences, Clinical Sciences, and Pharmaceutical Sciences were also fully accredited.
In the Faculties of Physical Sciences and Social Sciences, a total of seven programmes were granted full accreditation. From the Faculty of Arts, Igbo was accredited fully, while Hausa was given interim accreditation.
Reacting to the news, the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Egbewole, expressed excitement and described the outcome as a testament to the university’s consistent investment in human and material resources. He noted that the result reaffirmed the institution’s “Better by far” status.
Prof. Egbewole thanked the Provost, Deans, Heads of Departments, and all faculty members who contributed to the success. He assured that the university administration would continue to support and appreciate staff as it works toward more recognitions.
