Anambra polls: I left APGA with all my supporters — Ukachukwu

By Kunle Sanni

All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate in Anambra State, Nicholas Ukachukwu, says the defection of his political structure from the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) to the APC has significantly strengthened the ruling party ahead of the upcoming governorship election.

Speaking after President Bola Tinubu presented him with the party’s flag at the State House in Abuja, Ukachukwu declared his readiness to deliver Anambra to the APC and end what he called the state’s “one-party system.”

“When I left APGA, I left with all my supporters. That makes APC stronger. I ran on a joint ticket with the current governor and was a former APGA senatorial candidate. Now we’ve all joined APC — myself, my deputy, and leaders across the zones,” he said.

He claimed APC has become a formidable force with structures and supporters across all senatorial zones, saying, “It means nothing is left of APGA in the state.”

Ukachukwu also said multiple parties, including Labour Party and YPP, were aligning with the APC in a coalition to unseat the incumbent.

“Over 80 support groups have aligned with us. People from Labour, YPP, even APGA, are joining. We’ve seen incumbents lose before — even in Anambra. Now the real leaders are with APC.”

On his meeting with President Tinubu, Ukachukwu said the president was impressed with the reception he received in Anambra and urged the APC to “bring the state to the centre.”

He added that the APC National Working Committee, led by Abdullahi Ganduje, had largely reconciled internal factions following the party’s governorship primaries.
