Ebedi International Residency hosts female writers from Ghana, Togo, Nigeria

Four female writers from Ghana, Togo and Nigeria are attending the July/August 2024 Edition of the Ebedi International Writers’ Residency.

The writers, who already arrived Iseyin in Oyo State for the programme are, Woelinam Agordah from Ghana, Olive Chinyere Amajuoyi from Nigeria, Ruth Gbeglo from Togo and Olaitan Sanya-Abiodun also from Nigeria.

The Ebedi International Writers’ Residency, a private initiative founded by the award-winning author, Dr Wale Okediran is designed to promote African literature. It offers writers the opportunity to complete their ongoing literary works in a serene environment with free feeding and accommodation.

In addition to their individual writing projects, the participants will also organise literary activities and provide mentorship for secondary school students in Iseyin during their one month stay.

They also have the chance to visit notable landmarks such as the popular Ado Awaye Suspended Lake and Ebedi Hills..

The programme, established in 2010 has so far hosted 300 Writers from 12 African countries.

A press statement by the organisers indicate that: “the current writers’ stay at the Residency was sponsored by the Above Whispers Foundation, established by the eminent feminist thinker, gender specialist, policy advocate and writer, Erelu Bisi Adeleye-Fayemi.

“Erelu Fayemi is a long standing friend of the Ebedi Residency and we are delighted with this collaboration which has facilitated the sponsorship of female writers in various residences at Ebedi since 2023 till date.”

Erelu Bisi Fayemi is a former first lady of Ekiti State and the author of ‘Speaking above a Whisper’ (2013) ‘Speaking for myself (2013) ‘Loud Whispers’ (2017) and ‘Where is your Wrapper’ (2020).
