The First Lady, Oluremi Tinubu, has flagged off a free medical outreach and launched a health insurance scheme for vulnerable communities in the Niger Delta region.

Speaking at the event in Otuasega, Bayelsa State, the First Lady praised the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) for its commitment to healthcare and education, emphasizing their role in national development.

“As an educationist, I am glad that the NDDC recognizes education as a vital pillar of development. The distribution of 32,000 school desks and benches to public schools will create a more conducive learning environment for children,” she said. “These initiatives align with the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, focusing on education, health, and social investment to build a healthier and more empowered populace.”

She encouraged residents of the Niger Delta to take full advantage of the interventions, including the newly launched health insurance scheme, and to support development efforts in their communities.

As part of the event, the First Lady commissioned several projects, including: • 11 ambulances and personal protective gear for selected hospitals in the region.

• The inauguration of a cottage hospital to improve rural healthcare access.

• The launch of a health insurance scheme tailored for rural dwellers.

• The commissioning of a community secondary school in Otuasega.

• The distribution of school desks, benches, and textbooks to public schools.

The Governor of Bayelsa State commended the NDDC for its commitment to development, emphasizing that the agency plays a complementary role in improving the region’s welfare. He also thanked the First Lady for her dedication to enhancing the lives of Nigerians.

The Minister for Regional Development, Engr. Abubakar Momoh, urged other regional development commissions to follow the NDDC’s example in fulfilling their mandates.
