Osun APC tells Adeleke to prepare handover note ahead of 2026 poll

Says PDP screening a face-saving move after failed defection bid
By Deborah Oladejo, Osogbo –
The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Osun State has asked Governor Ademola Adeleke to start preparing his handover note ahead of the 2026 governorship election, saying no amount of political manoeuvring can save him from defeat given his abysmal performance in office.
Reacting to viral photos and videos showing Adeleke’s visit to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) National Secretariat in Abuja for what appeared to be a governorship screening exercise, the APC, in a statement by its Director of Media and Information, Kola Olabisi, said the governor’s action was merely an attempt to repair his image after several failed moves to join the APC.
Olabisi alleged that Adeleke had made multiple efforts in the last five months to defect to the opposition party but was rejected for being an unmarketable governor whose administration is marked by poor policy formulation and implementation, lack of transparency, endemic corruption, nepotism, and cronyism.
The party accused the governor of running a shallow and mediocre government focused only on personal interests, claiming that over ₦60 billion had been wasted on the Governor’s Office in less than three years without employing a single teacher, despite allegedly collecting money from over 32,000 job seekers under a failed recruitment scheme.
According to the APC, Adeleke’s failure to properly fund education has forced state-owned tertiary institutions to impose cut-throat and arbitrary fees to shore up the meagre resources available to them.
The party further alleged that Adeleke and his elder brother, Dr Deji Adeleke, had been loitering around Aso Villa lobbying for acceptance into the APC.
The statement reads: “The major problem that Governor Adeleke is contending with is the fear of the array of super-qualified governorship aspirants in our party who are all individually capable of sending the embattled governor back to Atlanta in the United States or wherever he might have come from.
“The 2026 governorship election is a contest for Adeleke and his rudderless and sanguinary party to lose, considering the poor and unfriendly public perception of their government.”
