The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ward 7, Irewole Local Government Area of Osun State has suspended Elder Peter Babalola, a prominent party chieftain, over allegations of anti-party activities.

In a letter addressed to the state chairman of the party, Sunday Bisi, and dated August 27, 2024, the suspension was signed by 17 executive members of Ward 7, Irewole Local Government, where Babalola is a member. The letter cited his alleged anti-party activities, which were described as potentially damaging to the party’s reputation, as the reason for his suspension.

The letter stated: “After exhaustive deliberations on the various anti-party activities of Elder Peter Babalola in the PDP over the past two years, and his habitual engagement in actions that could bring the party into disrepute, coupled with his failure to attend PDP ward and local government meetings in the last two years, the executive of the PDP in Ward 07, Irewole Local Government hereby suspends Elder Peter Adebayo Babalola from the PDP in Ward 07, Irewole Local Government, effective August 27, 2024.

“By this suspension, Elder Peter Adebayo Babalola ceases to be a member of the PDP in Ward 07, Irewole Local Government.”

Babalola, a native of Ikire in Irewole Local Government, previously served as Chief of Staff during Olagunsoye Oyinlola’s administration in Osun State and was appointed Chairman of the College of Education, Ila-Orangun, by Governor Ademola Adeleke in 2023.

Following his suspension, Babalola submitted his resignation from the party. In a letter addressed to the state party chairman and dated August 27, 2024, he stated, “I am writing to formally notify you of my decision to resign my membership from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) effective immediately. This decision comes after careful reflection and consideration of my personal values, goals, and the political direction I wish to pursue.

“I wish the PDP continued success in its future endeavours and hope for the advancement of democracy and good governance in Nigeria.”
