Vice President Kashim Shettima on Thursday in Abuja commissioned the ultra-modern African Medical Centre of Excellence.
The world-class hospital was funded by the Federal Government of Nigeria in collaboration with Afrexim Bank.
Shettima, who represented President Bola Tinubu, restated the government’s commitment to funding and modernising the healthcare delivery system in Nigeria.

The Vice President wrote via his social media handles:
“On behalf of my boss, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, I officially commissioned the African Medical Centre of Excellence (AMCE) in Abuja today, where I described the project as a monument to African resilience and innovation, and a bold step toward Nigeria’s emergence as a global healthcare hub.

“Delivering Mr President’s remarks, I disclosed that our country has secured over $2.2 billion in health sector commitments through the Nigeria Health Sector Renewal Investment Initiative, launched by this administration in December 2023.
“The initiative, which is already underway, aims to renovate over 17,000 primary health centres, train 120,000 frontline health workers, and double national health insurance coverage within three years.

“The commissioning of the AMCE is not just about unveiling a structure of steel and bricks, but also about unveiling Nigeria’s collective refusal to accept medical vulnerability as destiny.”
