Viral Boko Haram invasion video fake – Oyo Police

The Oyo State Police Command has debunked a viral video circulating on social media, which falsely claims that Boko Haram insurgents had invaded the state.
In a statement issued on Tuesday in Ibadan by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, CSP Adewale Osifeso, the video was described as misleading and outdated.
“The Oyo State Police Command wishes to address the recent circulation of misleading information on social media regarding a video that purportedly shows an attempted invasion of the state by Boko Haram elements intercepted along the Ibadan Expressway,” Osifeso said.
He explained that the video, which allegedly shows articulated trucks filled with motorcycles and weapons, is actually a recycled clip from 2022.
“The command urges the public to remain vigilant and disregard such antics. We assure the public that there is no current threat to the safety and security of the state,” he added.
To support the claim, Osifeso pointed out that the Divisional Crime Officer (DCO) seen briefly in the video, DSP Segun Adeyemo of the Ilero Divisional Police Headquarters, retired from the Nigeria Police Force in August 2024 after many years of meritorious service.
Osifeso reaffirmed the command’s commitment to the safety of all residents and urged the public to exercise caution and verify information thoroughly before sharing it, particularly videos relating to previously resolved matters.
