Adebayo, face of generational shift in Nigerian politics- Sowunmi

A chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ogun, Segun Sowunmi, has described Prince Adewole Adebayo as a credible symbol of a generational shift in Nigerian politics.

Speaking in an interview, Sowunmi said Adebayo represents a cohort of younger leaders who are prepared, articulate, and ideologically grounded.

“People like Adebayo fit into the category of giving them a chance,” he said, urging Nigerians to open up the political space to competent younger leaders with fresh ideas.

Sowunmi, who leads a civic platform known as The Alternative, argued that democracy must extend beyond partisanship to prioritise competence, measurable results, and national development.

He maintained that leadership renewal is essential to prevent power from circulating endlessly within the same political class.

While acknowledging the complexities of Nigeria’s political landscape, he said credible emerging leaders should not be overlooked simply because they operate outside dominant party structures.

He urged citizens to vote responsibly and place competence above other considerations, stressing that the “best among us should lead the rest of us”.
