Atiku slams Tinubu for ‘gallivanting around Europe’ amid insecurity in Plateau, Benue

Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has issued a scathing rebuke of President Bola Tinubu, criticizing him for traveling across Europe while deadly attacks continue to plague parts of Nigeria, particularly Benue and Plateau states.

Atiku described the Tinubu administration as “utterly incapable, wholly incompetent, and completely devoid of any coherent ideas” to address the country’s worsening security crisis.

In a strongly worded statement on Sunday, he lamented the government’s perceived indifference to recent killings in the Logo and Gbagir communities of Ukum Local Government Area in Benue State.

“The blood of innocent Nigerians continues to be spilled with appalling regularity… yet the Tinubu presidency remains disturbingly indifferent,” Atiku said.

Citing examples from international leaders, including former U.S. President Barack Obama, South Africa’s Cyril Ramaphosa, and former Nigerian President Goodluck Jonathan, Atiku argued that responsible leadership demands presence and empathy during national tragedies.

“President Bola Tinubu, incapable of solving Nigeria’s worsening insecurity, chooses instead to gallivant across Europe—governing Nigeria in absentia, as if from a holiday perch,” he said.

While extending condolences to the people and government of Benue State, Atiku called on Tinubu to at least “pretend to care” if he cannot offer real leadership.

“This is not just my position—it is a growing consensus among political opposition leaders, respected security experts, and even members within the ruling party,” he added.
