CAF ruling: Libya appeals with supporting documents
By Tosin Omojola
The Acting President of the Libyan Football Federation (LFF), Nasser Al-Suwaie, has announced that Libya has formally appealed to the Appeals Committee of the Confederation of African Football (CAF).
The appeal challenges the recent decision by CAF’s Disciplinary Committee regarding Libya’s second-leg fixture against Nigeria’s Super Eagles.
The Disciplinary Committee penalized Libya with a deduction of three points, a forfeiture of three goals, and a fine of $50,000. This sanction follows an incident at Labraq Airport, where Nigeria’s Super Eagles were reportedly held in a hostage situation for over 15 hours after their chartered flight was diverted just minutes before landing in Benghazi.
Al-Suwaie stated that the LFF submitted documents and evidence supporting its stance, asserting that the Federation had committed no violation warranting these penalties.
He added that if the protest is dismissed, the LFF plans to escalate the matter to the International Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS).
