Ekiti APC leaders seek Fasuyi’s disqualification from senatorial primary over poor performance

Fresh trouble has hit the ambition of the Senator representing Ekiti North Senatorial District, Cyril Fasuyi, following a petition seeking his disqualification from the APC primary election over an underwhelming performance as a federal lawmaker.
Leaders in the district petitioned the National Working Committee of the All Progressives Congress, urging the party to stop Fasuyi from participating in the contest for a second-term ticket.
The petition, dated May 2 and signed by Afuye Idowu on behalf of the district, accused the senator of poor performance and conduct allegedly inconsistent with the party’s ideals.
“The assessment of Senator Fasuyi’s present term clearly shows that he is antithetical to the ideals of the Renewed Hope Agenda and the ideology of the APC,” the petition stated.
The group alleged that the lawmaker had failed to sponsor meaningful bills or contribute significantly to debates on the floor of the Senate since assuming office.
“In almost three years in the Senate, Fasuyi has not sponsored any landmark bill that benefits Ekiti North, Ekiti State, or Nigeria as a whole,” the petition added.
The petitioners also accused the senator of violating fundamental rights and allegedly instigating the arrest and detention of some individuals based on what they described as false allegations.
The group further vowed to mobilise against Fasuyi during the APC primary, insisting that they would do everything within their power to stop his re-election bid.
