Fayose, Obasanjo exchange barbs over birthday party remarks

Former Ekiti State Governor, Ayodele Fayose, and former President Olusegun Obasanjo have clashed publicly following Fayose’s 65th birthday celebration in Lagos.

The spat erupted after Fayose sent a sharply worded message to Obasanjo, criticising the former president’s comments during the event. Fayose described Obasanjo’s remarks as “very irresponsible” and claimed the former president had “gone so low.” He added that “someone once said you are supposed to be kept away in the zoo. Sincerely, that’s where you belong.”

Fayose further alleged that Obasanjo had “lost his sanity,” likening his behaviour to the “heightened stage of dementia.” He reportedly refrained from responding during the function to demonstrate “the difference between a sane and a mad man.”

In the message, Fayose demanded that Obasanjo return money he had previously sent and indicated that he would address the press to make further comments.

Obasanjo later shared the messages along with his response, saying that “Ayo, thanks for your ‘Thank You’ message, which undisguisedly revealed who and what you are, unchanged and unchangeable. Your money has been sent back through Foluso Adeagbo, who brought it, in the same bag as he delivered it, unopened by me.”
